Yogi Bear is a fictional bear who appears in animated cartoons created by Hanna-Barbera Productions.
Like many Hanna-Barbera characters, Yogi's personality and mannerisms were based on a popular celebrity of the time. Art Carney's Ed Norton character on The Honeymooners was said to be Yogi's inspiration; his voice mannerisms broadly mimic Carney as Norton. Yogi's name is commonly seen as a nod to the famed baseball star Yogi Berra, though Hanna and Barbera denied this intent. The plot of most of Yogi's cartoons centered on his antics in the fictional Jellystone Park, a takeoff on the famous Yellowstone National Park. Yogi, accompanied by his reluctant best friend Boo Boo, would often try to steal picnic baskets from campers in the park, much to the chagrin of Park Ranger Smith. A girlfriend, Cindy Bear, turned up sometimes, and usually disapproved of Yogi's antics.
Besides often speaking in rhyme, Yogi Bear is well-known for a variety of different catchphrases, including his pet name for picnic baskets ("pic-a-nic baskets") and his favorite self-promotion ("I'm smarter than the average bear!"), although he often overestimates his own cleverness. He often greets the ranger with a cordial, "Hello, Mr. Ranger, sir!" He also likes to say, "Hey, Boo Boo!" as his preferred greeting to his humbler sidekick.



Hey There, It's Yogi Bear (1964)




Ranger Smith, tired of Yogi's picnic basket stealing, has him and Boo-Boo shipped off to the San Diego Zoo. Yogi escapes being sent away, unknown to Yogi's girlfriend Cindy, who goes looking for him and is kidnapped by a circus owner. Yogi and Boo-Boo are forced to sneak out of the park and travel across the country to save Cindy and bring her back home.

Yogi's Ark Lark (1972)




Yogi, Boo Boo and many of his friends including Huckleberry Hound, Snagglepuss, Magilla Gorilla among others decide to build an ark to look for the mythical Perfect Place which is peaceful and hasn't been affected by man and pollution. They hire the Jellystone's janitor Noah Smith to act as captain and travel throughout the world looking for such a place. Even though they think every place they land is a "Perfect place", they soon find out that there is definitely no place like home.

Yogi The Easter Bear (1994)




Yogi Bear ruins Mister Ranger's plans for the big Easter Jamboree by thinking only of himself and eating all the Easter treats, accidentally destroying the park Easter Bunny suit in the process. Wanting to help Mister Ranger (whose career depends on holding a successful event and impressing his boss) and also wanting to save himself from being shipped off to the Siberian Circus, Yogi Bear sets off to bring the real Easter Bunny to the celebration.
Unfortunately, the Easter Bunny has been kidnapped by evil villains who run a factory and want to get rid of all the real chicken eggs so they can sell their plastic ones to everyone. Of course, Yogi and Boo Boo Bear rescue the Easter Bunny, save the Easter Jamboree, and even convince Mister Ranger to believe in the Easter Bunny.

Arabian Nights (1994)




This was the final cartoon from Hanna-Barbera Productions to feature its famous classic characters, Yogi Bear and Boo Boo, Magilla Gorilla, Scooby-Doo and Shaggy and as well as a string of new characters made for this special. It is also the last time that Don Messick voiced Scooby-Doo.
Scooby and Shaggy are hired as royal food-tasters by a young Arab Caliph - a job offer they can't refuse. When they eat everything, the Caliph gets mad and has his guards chase them, until he finds Shaggy disguised in drag as a harem girl. In order to make the prince fall asleep, Shaggy tells him two classic stories: The first tale is about a female character named Aliyah-din and how the genies (played by Yogi and Boo Boo) help her obtain the love of a prince while thwarting the plot of the evil wizard Haman. The second tale is about Sinbad the Sailor (played by Magilla Gorilla) and how he mistakens a pirate ship for a cruise ship. When Shaggy is about to escape, the Caliph decides to start the ceremony right away. When the wedding cake arrives, Shaggy pigs out and his ruse is discovered. He and Scooby are asked to be the royal storytellers, and the duo accept as well as being the royal food tasters again.
